Chapter Four
Rizzo worked two regular, legal contracts, then decided to finally agree to go out with Blake for brunch on a Sunday. How dangerous could that be, right? A cute sundress, flats, hair in a pony tail and her favorite Tom Ford tote that could hold a tablet, phone, and enough clothes for a weekend – if she so desired.
They met at Dottie’s Diner, a retro silver rail car with red vinyl booths and stools at the counter. Rizzo got there first and chose the last booth against the windows, her back to the wall so she could keep an eye on the room. It would also make Blake uncomfortable because he’d want to sit with his back to the wall like he did at Santana’s, but she got first dibs. Keeping him a little off-kilter was to her benefit anyway. Or so she told herself.
He showed up about ten minutes after Rizzo, dressed in dark blue jeans and a light blue polo shirt that brightened his eyes. Blake smiled when he saw her and seated himself before the waitress could get around the counter.
“Thanks for agreeing to come out with me,” Blake said.
“Thanks for asking,” Rizzo replied. “I ordered a carafe of coffee. I’m being bold and assuming you drink coffee.”
“I do, thank you,” Blake replied and poured himself a cup. “What’s good to eat here?”
